Ella Nuttelman

Ella Nuttelman is an experienced ski and mountain guide who is also certified as a run coach through UESCA. She works with athletes to build endurance and strength, which are crucial for crushing long races. Ella has found speed on both the road and the trail, having run the Boston Marathon, and more recently, winning the Grand Traverse Triple Crown (having the fastest combined time for a ski mountaineering race, trail run, and mountain bike race). She also holds FKT’s (fastest known times) for the East Ridge of Edith Cavell and Big Sister up in Canada.  Perhaps more important than her achievements are the lessons she has learned through setbacks, which have taught her invaluable lessons about training properly (and what not to do).

Ella combines empathy and understanding with a scientific approach to training to help athletes reach their highest potential.  As a mother herself, Ella understands the demands of life, and how various obstacles can impact a person’s plans.  She works with individuals to set realistic goals and will tailor an athlete’s plan to fit their needs.  Ella’s educational background is in therapeutic recreation, and she believes that recreation (which includes training/running) is an essential human need.  She looks forward to supporting athletes as they maximize their potential through a balanced, holistic, and data-driven approach to training.

Specialization

Ella enjoys working with distance athletes, especially those looking to take on trail or mountain adventures.  She is also passionate about helping people return to sport after injury or a big life event, such as having a kid.  A trail or ultra runner can expect to grow and be supported by Ella through her coaching. As a guide, mountain professional, and jane-of-all-trades outdoor enthusiast herself, Ella is also experienced at working with other endurance sports, such as backcountry skiers/skimo athletes, backpackers, climbers, mountain bikers, and those looking to take on a multi-day adventure.  She will create a customized plan for whatever your goals may be.

  • Additional phone consultations can be scheduled for $30/half hour.

  • No routine adjustments made to the training plan, and limited comments in Training Peaks.

  • minimal need for guidance, analysis, or routine check-ins once training has started.
